Best Golf Courses in Fountain Hills

If you know me, you know I have golf in my blood almost as much as real estate. Long before I was helping people find their dream home here in Fountain Hills, I was a teenager working in the restaurant at the Wicked Six Bar and Grill at SunRidge Canyon Golf Club, from about sixteen all the way to twenty three years old. I did not grow up playing golf. I grew up serving the people who did, watching sunsets over the McDowell Mountains from the patio and listening to golfers talk about their rounds. Somewhere in those years, all of that rubbed off on me, and I fell completely in love with the game.

These days I still try to play every course in Fountain Hills whenever I can carve out the time. There is something special about golf here that you do not find everywhere else in the Valley. The desert canyons, the elevation changes, the mountain views that stop you mid swing. So I wanted to put together my personal, boots on the ground list of the best golf courses in Fountain Hills, from someone who has spent her whole life around them.

SunRidge Canyon Golf Club

This one will always be home to me. SunRidge Canyon is a Keith Foster design that winds through actual desert canyons with sheer rock walls and dry creek beds, and it is famous for its closing stretch known as the Wicked Six, six of the most dramatic and memorable finishing holes you will find anywhere in Arizona. I spent years working in the restaurant there before I ever picked up a club or a real estate license, and it is where my love for this game and this course really started. It still holds a piece of my heart. If you golf here once, you will understand why locals talk about it the way they do.

Eagle Mountain Golf Club

Eagle Mountain is all about elevation. Scott Miller designed this course with over two hundred feet of elevation change, and the signature par five fourteenth hole drops nearly two hundred feet from tee to green. The canyon carries and sweeping views across the Valley make this a course you play for the scenery just as much as the game.

We-Ko-Pa Golf Club

Just outside Fountain Hills near Fort McDowell, We-Ko-Pa is actually two courses in one. The Saguaro Course, designed by Coore and Crenshaw, is a strategic masterpiece that rewards smart positioning over raw power. The Cholla Course brings dramatic elevation changes and saguaro lined fairways with a few forced carries that will test your nerve. Both are public and both are worth the short drive.

Desert Canyon Golf Club

Desert Canyon is Fountain Hills' oldest course, and it remains one of the most approachable and affordable places to play in town. Narrow fairways wind through natural desert landscaping at the base of the McDowell Mountains, and the signature seventh hole has been voted among the best in Arizona.

FireRock Country Club

FireRock is the private gem of Fountain Hills, known for elevated tees, raised greens, and approach shots that demand precision. The mountain views here are some of the best in the area, and every hole feels like its own unique challenge.

Verde River Golf and Social Club

A little further out in Rio Verde, Verde River is the longest course in the area, playing through the Verde River basin with lush riparian terrain that feels completely different from the typical desert course. It is a great change of pace if you want something scenic and a bit more forgiving.
